Bonfire night

Hello everyone I haven't been doing much gardening but we did go and see the firework display they were really good some were pink, purple, different colours nearly all the colours in the UK.
Today I drew some pictures of the fireworks and the bonfire I'm going to put some pictures of them, I used soft pastels and cotton wool and what you had to do was you had a craft knife you could scrape it with the knife or just do it like proper colouring, then blend with the cotton wool.
Here are my pictures

My Tomato plants

hello everyone
Sorry it's been awhile but I've been busy with school and other things. My Tomato plants have got proper tomatoes on them, some are tiny some are huge, they are not quite ready yet but hopefully soon they will be, they look scrumptious I can't wait to eat them yummy yum :)

My hot pepper plants have grown and some are starting to go red some are still green yet, I think we need bigger pots to put them in as they are quite small so don't think they can grow big in the pots they are in, something that I need to remember for next year.

I have Watered my plant's for today I've given them a good drink.
Pictures to come soon as it is too dark now
Bye for now

I'm designing my own logo

My mum and dad have asked me to create my own logo for my website.  A logo is a picture or words that tell you what the logo means like the MacDonald's logo and the Apple for my primary school (Applegarth).

Applegarth Primary School

I will come up with some ideas over the school holidays then I will ask you all to choose your favourite.  The chosen one will be made into my logo for the website and maybe even a special Facebook page which mum and dad will look after.

I better get creating!

What happens when hot pepper plants flower? Part 2!

In my first post about pepper plants (http://ameliasgardenproject.blogspot.co.uk/2013/07/what-happens-when-hot-pepper-plants.html) I asked what would happen after the plants flowered?

Well the answer is...they produce peppers.  I have a lot of small peppers on my plants, so many that we might have to re-pot them into a bigger pot soon!

I hope the peppers will grow bigger and bigger so we can eat them! YUMMY!!!

How to attract butterflies to your garden?

I want to attract butterflies to my garden because I like their pretty colours and patterns.
I have to provide butterflies with warm, sunny parts of the garden. I have to include shrubs, trees and flowers so nectar (What butterflies drink!) will be available for the butterflies.  This will let butterflies use my garden and maybe even make baby butterflies!

You need some special plants in your garden

Lavender

Buddlea

Snapdragon

There are many other plants but these are the ones I want in my garden.

I hope mum and dad will treat me to some of them soon!

Creating a vegetable plot!

My mum, dad, brother and me have dugout a new vegetable plot in our garden.  It was really hard work and we found a massive piece of concrete, which dad had to move...it was really heavy!

This is how we done it.

1.  We marked out the area with string.

2.  We removed the turf and stored it in the corner of the garden to      start a compost pile. (I will explain about compost and making          your own soon)

3.  We dug the area over and dug out the big piece of concrete.

4.  Dad moved this and it hurt his back because it was so heavy!

5.  We might use it somewhere in the garden as it's nearly too heavy to move!

6.  Mum put down some old carpet to stop the weeds regrowing but we have to get some more black bags over it soon.

I wonder what vegetables we will grow next year once it's ready?

Bye, bye

Miniature Fairy garden

This is how I made my Fairy garden...

1.  First I chose my pot

2.  Next I picked what plants I wanted in it...

3. I filled my pot with compost, added my fairy house, and the taller plants which are Cosmos (they look like trees)....

4. I added a tea-light holder as decoration, & an alpine plant called Armeria....

5. I added the pansies & shells for the footpath, & stones for seats & pine cones as decoration & finally my fairy...

I plan to do more of these as it was fun & is really magical
Do you believe in fairies???

I do :)
bye for now Amelia.x

Hi Everyone
I`m back from Camp & have lots of different posts to do, I had a really good time...When we first got to camp we had to set our tents up,set up the camping stove which our friend Steve did. Our dear friend Sue had made a stew for tea which was yummy scrummy...

We all had a really good time, only we did come back a day early due to Saturday night there was a really bad storm, but we stayed as long as we could on Sunday so I had tea with my friend....

Another type of bird feeder!

Today i'm going to show you how to do another type of bird feeder.

You will need
  • A plastic bottle
  • A sharp knife or a pair of scissors
  • A special bird feeder adaptor
  • AN ADULT TO HELP
This is how to do it

First, ask your mum or dad to buy a special feeder like this from a garden centre, or you can save your pocket money.  They only cost about £2.

Next, break off the special attachment and make 2 holes in your plastic bottle using your scissors or a sharp knife.  YOU WILL NEED AN ADULT TO HELP.

Then, attach the hook fastening.

Then, turn it upside down and add the bird food.

Then screw on the attachment like this.

Turn it the right way up.

Then hang it wherever you want, i'm hanging mine at our feeding station.

You can use any size of bottle from a small juice bottle to a larger one.  Remember to keep it filled up as the birds will expect food to be there.

There will be more "How to's" soon

Do you want to make...a birdseed birthday cake???

Follow these instructions and the birds will come flocking to your "Birthday Cake"!!!

You will need

  • Lard
  • Birdseed/birdfood
  • A small container (I used half a coconut shell) but you can use clean yogurt pots, small drinks bottles or whatever you want.
  • Some string
YOU WILL NEED AN ADULT TO HELP!

How to make your "Birdseed Birthday cake"

  1. Either warm up the lard in a saucepan until melted (If you do it this way GET AN ADULT TO HELP) You can also chop it into small cubes and mash it together with your fingers.

    2. Pierce a hole in your container and tie the String through the hole to make a loop.  GET AN ADULT TO HELP WITH THIS PART!

    3. Add the birdseed/birdfood to the mixture.  DO NOT ADD RAISINS TO THE MIX IF YOU HAVE A DOG...THEY CAN MAKE YOUR DOG ILL

    4.  Press into your container and leave to harden in the fridge for about an hour.

    5.  Once hardened hang outside wherever you can!

There will be more "How To's" Soon!

How to make a bird restaurant from recycled milk bottles?!!!

Do you like to go out for meals? I do and so do birds, this is how i made mine.
You will need:

  • A plastic milk bottle, which has been washed out.
  • Some sticks or straws for the birds to land on.
  • A pair of scissors or a craft-knife.
  • Some bird seed.
  • An adult to help.
This is how you make it:

  1. You have to carefully pierce the milk bottle with either scissors or your craft knife and push through the sticks or straws. YOU WILL NEED AN ADULT TO HELP YOU WITH THE NEXT 2 STEPS!

    2.  Use your craft knife or scissors to make holes in the carton for the birds to feed from.  I cut out the last hole with my dad watching!

    3.  Fill it up with birdseed but not too much!
    4.  Hang it up outside, we used a bush at the bottom of our garden but anywhere will do!

You can also put in peanuts, sunflower seeds, mealworms and fruit.  If you have dogs DON'T INCLUDE RAISINS AS THEY WILL MAKE DOGS ILL!!!

It will get mouldy so you can replace it with another one.

DONT FORGET TO KEEP IT TOPPED UP!!!

Another "How To" will follow soon!!!

    Bye, bye
